David's Story
From calling to ordination to the pulpit today — David's spiritual journey in his own words.
Reverend David Simmons is a devoted man of faith whose life has been shaped by family, hard work, perseverance, Christian service, and an unwavering commitment to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A native of Landrum, South Carolina, Reverend Simmons is a graduate of Landrum High School. He continued his education at Spartanburg Technical College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and later attended Isothermal Community College in Spindale, North Carolina.
Reverend Simmons devoted approximately 30 years of his professional life to the textile industry, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for commitment, responsibility, and service. He later worked in the fast-food industry before retiring. Throughout the many seasons of his life, his faith remained a constant source of strength, guidance, and direction.
His spiritual foundation was established at an early age at St. Luke Baptist Church in Landrum, South Carolina, which served as his home church from birth. It was there that his love for God and his desire to serve others continued to grow. Recognizing the call that God had placed upon his life, Reverend Simmons answered that calling and was ordained into the Gospel ministry at St. Luke Baptist Church in 1995.
In 2003, Reverend Simmons began attending Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Gramling in Campobello, South Carolina. Drawn to the fellowship, worship, and ministry of the church, he officially became a member of the Mt. Zion family in 2007. Since that time, he has continued to grow in faith, fellowship, and Christian service.
As the years passed, Reverend Simmons felt the Lord calling him more deeply into the ministry of preaching. He came to understand that God had placed upon his heart a sacred responsibility: to preach His Word, proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, encourage the people of God, and share the message of salvation with all who would hear it. With humility, prayer, and obedience, Reverend Simmons embraced that divine calling.
A significant milestone in his spiritual journey came on August 2, 2026, when Reverend Simmons preached his initial sermon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. On that memorable Sunday morning, the sanctuary was filled with family members, friends, church members, and visitors who had gathered in anticipation to hear the message the Lord had placed upon his heart.
It was more than simply a sermon—it was the public expression of a calling that had been developing within him through prayer, faith, experience, and obedience to God. Surrounded by those who loved and supported him, Reverend Simmons stood before the congregation prepared to deliver the Word that God had entrusted to him. The occasion marked the beginning of a new and meaningful chapter in his ministry as he stepped forward in faith to fulfill the Lord’s call upon his life.
For Reverend Simmons, preaching is not merely an opportunity to stand before a congregation; it is a sacred assignment and a responsibility to faithfully communicate God’s Word. His desire is to preach with sincerity, compassion, conviction, and humility, always seeking to point others toward the saving grace, love, and hope found in Jesus Christ.
Reverend Simmons is the proud father of two adult sons. Today, he resides in Landrum, South Carolina, where he enjoys the natural beauty and peaceful surroundings of the Upstate. He has long held a special appreciation for the mountains, finding both peace and inspiration in their beauty and grandeur. He especially enjoys visiting the mountains of North Carolina and Georgia, where the quiet majesty of the landscape provides an opportunity to reflect, recharge, and appreciate the blessings of God’s creation.
Some of his most treasured moments in the mountains are those shared with his extended family. Family retreats to the mountains of North Carolina and Georgia have provided opportunities to step away from the demands of everyday life, enjoy meaningful fellowship, share laughter and conversation, and simply spend time together. For Reverend Simmons, these experiences represent more than travel or recreation—they reflect the importance he places on family, togetherness, gratitude, and the simple blessings that make life meaningful.
His appreciation for the outdoors also extends to his own home, where he enjoys working in his yard and taking in the natural beauty that surrounds him. Whether standing among the mountains, spending time with family, tending to his yard, or preparing to stand before a congregation, Reverend Simmons possesses a deep appreciation for moments of peace, reflection, and connection.
Through the years, Reverend Simmons has experienced many chapters of life—each one contributing to the wisdom, humility, perseverance, and compassion that he brings to his ministry today. His journey reflects the testimony of a man who has worked diligently, remained grounded in faith, valued the enduring bonds of family, and continued to listen for the voice and direction of God.
Above all, Reverend David Simmons desires that his life and ministry bring glory to God and lead others closer to Christ. With a servant’s heart, a love for God’s people, a deep devotion to family, and a growing passion for His Word, he remains committed to preaching the Gospel, encouraging the brokenhearted, strengthening believers, and faithfully carrying the message of Jesus Christ wherever the Lord may lead him.
His journey is still being written, but its purpose is clear: to answer God’s call, to preach His Word, to cherish the people and blessings God has placed in his life, and to serve faithfully for the glory of the Lord.
